Exam facts and free MCQs

How we made this

We built this guide from Khyber Medical University's final-year MBBS assessment plan and the block blueprints published by KMU-affiliated colleges. Written in October 2026. KMU and your college can revise blueprints each year, so check kmu.edu.pk and your college study guide for the current version.

The exam in one minute

Route 1

If you prefer books on paper

Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine
Main medicine text across all four blocks.
Macleod's Clinical Examination
History and examination skills for OSCE and long and short cases.
Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine
Quick review of management before each block.
Your college's block study guide and KMU blueprint
Shows exactly how many MCQs each subject has in each block.
Route 2

If you can study from a screen

MedSurgOnline helps you revise each block's medicine topics on screen.

  • Explained medicine MCQs linked to topics, so you can revise cardiology before Block O or nephrology before Block P.
  • Exam Companion Medicine notes, plus minors, with search.
  • A weak areas view that shows which systems you need to revisit.
  • Unlimited timed mocks in the real exam style — Mock 1 to 5, plus a new mock every time.

Step by step

  1. Get the blueprint for each block Find out how many questions each subject has in the block you are sitting next and plan by those numbers.
  2. Revise by system Match your study to the block theme, for example cardiology and respiratory for Block O.
  3. Do MCQs after each topic Answer single-best questions and read the explanations to fix gaps.
  4. Practise clinical skills weekly Rehearse history taking and examination for OSCE stations and the long case on the wards.
  5. Do not neglect the other subjects Paediatrics and surgery carry many marks in each block, so share your time across them.
  6. Sit a timed 120-question paper Before each block, practise a full paper to judge your pace.

Short on time?

  1. Use the blueprint to focus on the biggest subjects in the block.
  2. Do topic-based MCQs with explanations every day.
  3. Practise a few OSCE stations with a colleague.

Common mistakes

  • Revising medicine as one big subject instead of by the systems each block tests.
  • Leaving clinical practice to the last week.
  • Not checking the latest blueprint, which can change from year to year.

Screen or paper?

Try one week on screen. If you remember what you read and can keep going for 2–3 hours, stay on screen. If not, use Route 1 and use the website only for MCQ practice.
