How to prepare for the DUHS FCPS-II entry test

A two-hour single-best MCQ paper that decides FCPS-II training places at DUHS, Karachi.

Exam facts and free MCQs

How we made this

We built this guide from DUHS's own documents: the FCPS eligibility criteria for Session 2026-A and 2025-B, and the entry test programmes and notices published on duhs.edu.pk, together with education news coverage of the test schedule. Written in October 2026. DUHS updates its notices for every session and asks candidates to check its website regularly, so confirm dates and rules at duhs.edu.pk.

The exam in one minute

Route 1

If you prefer books on paper

Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine
Core text for the Medicine and Allied paper.
Bailey and Love's Short Practice of Surgery
Core text for the Surgery and Allied paper.
Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine
Quick revision of facts and management lists before the test.
Past DUHS and FCPS recall papers
Practice in the style of the test. Check answers against a textbook, as recalls are often wrong.

Step by step

  1. Confirm your paper and session Check the DUHS notice for which paper your chosen discipline sits under and the date and shift. Medicine and Allied and Surgery and Allied run in different time slots.
  2. Check eligibility early Make sure your documents, including FCPS-I result, PMDC registration and any NOC you need, are ready well before the deadline.
  3. Build a core from one textbook Choose one main book for your paper and read it by system, making short notes on management and investigations.
  4. Do MCQs every day After each topic, answer questions and read every explanation. Keep a list of the facts you got wrong.
  5. Answer every question There is no negative marking, so never leave a blank. Make your best guess and move on.
  6. Sit full timed papers In the last few weeks, do complete 2-hour mocks to set your pace and find weak areas to revise.

Short on time?

  1. Focus on high-yield topics in your paper and do MCQs daily.
  2. Answer every question, since wrong answers cost nothing.
  3. Do at least one full timed mock before the day.

Common mistakes

  • Missing an eligibility document and being unable to sit the test.
  • Leaving questions blank when there is no penalty for guessing.
  • Learning from recall answers without checking them in a standard book.

Screen or paper?

Try one week on screen. If you remember what you read and can keep going for 2–3 hours, stay on screen. If not, use Route 1 and use the website only for MCQ practice.
